You may have forgotten that on January 1st VAT will rise by 2.5% to 17.5% as the reduced VAT rate comes to an end.
You’ll have to pay £5 extra on the cheapest netbook
The VAT rise means that from January, the cheapest £200 netbook will cost £5 more in tax. Mid price netbooks like the Samsung N110 will go up by £7. And a top of the range £400 netbook will go up by a massive £10. So if you’d rather see the tenner in your pocket than in Gordon Brown’s, you need to buy soon.
Not just netbooks - there’s £15 extra on a £600 flat screen TV
Yes, everything that carries the normal rate of VAT will go up in price too. For every £200 that your fridge, cooker, TV, XBox terminal costs, you’ll fork out an extra £5 in tax.
So if you were waiting for prices to come down for your electrical goods and cheap netbooks, then think again.
