Samsung NC20 netbook – thumbs down

Samsung have just updated their fabulous NC10 netbook with the NC20, but we think they needn’t have bothered

The only real difference from the NC10 is that the Samsung NC20 has a 12 inch screen instead of the 10.2 inch one of the NC10.

Now I’m not quite sure what Samsung think they’re doing here, as I’ve used an NC10 for three months now – in fact it’s become my main portable – and it does not need a bigger screen.

If I wanted a bigger screen, I’d get a proper laptop with a 15 or 17 incher, but I just don’t want to carry anything that big around with me. Add to that the extra power needed to light up those extra two inches of screen, and your battery life has just got to suffer.


Buy a Samsung NC10 instead
One of the brilliant things I love about my Samsung NC10 (and there are many!) is the superb battery life. I don’t need to spend my life hanging round power sockets or looking for my next power fix, and I’ve a feeling that by putting those extra inches on the screen, Samsung have shot themselves in the foot.

Believe me, 10.2 inches of great screen, and that’s what the NC10 has, is enough for anybody – even my grandad. Yes, I got him one of these as he’d been into a high street store to ask about netbooks as his mate Bill had been talking about them.

Anyway, grandad came out of the store even more baffled than when he went in. So I pointed him to our explanation on this site, bought him the Samsung NC10 from Microwarehouse who I’ve been dealing with for years and he’s as happy as Larry. We didn’t make it a Best Buy Netbook for nothing!

So sorry Samsung, you’re going the wrong way. Give me the NC10 netbook any day!

    Until the NC10 has a higher resolution, the NC20 will be the better choice for many.

    I know what you mean Mark – the Samsung NC10 netbook is 1024 x 600 versus 1280 x 800 on the NC20, but everyone I’ve spoken to (and I’ve done quite a bit of research) finds the Samsung NC10 brilliant to use and amazingly clear. People who really do find the NC10 screen too small – and there can’t be many of them I’d guess – would be better looking for a full size laptop imho.
    But then I’ve even met some people who prefer other netbooks to the Samsung, so in the end I suppose it’s all down to taste.

    But we all love the Samsung NC10 netbook in the office.
