Windows 7

Windows vs Linux on netbooks?

When netbooks came out, some were sold with Linux installed. Linux is an alternative operating system to Windows.

Linux on netbooks was used for two reasons: firstly that it was cheaper, saving the cost of buying Windows ( Linux is “open source” and free); secondly that it is lighter and slightly faster than Windows.

The disadvantage of Linux is that it is not so user friendly and Windows programs will not run on Linux.

So this means that Word, Excel, Photoshop, outlook, outlook express and any other programs you’re used to, you’ll need to learn and use the Linux equivalents.

For this reason, Linux is now not routinely sold with netbooks, and the choice is between Windows XP and the newer Windows 7.

Windows XP vs Windows 7 on netbooks?

Which should you buy with your netbook, Windows XP or Windows 7?

At present, you ‘ll have to pay slightly more for a netbook with Windows 7 than for a netbook with Windows XP.

Both operating systems are good, fast and reliable on a netbook. Both do a good job.

If you want to keep up with technology and want tomorrow’s operating system, then go for Windows 7.

If you just want to use your netbook, aren’t too bothered about being future proofed and already know Windows XP, then by all means buy a netbook with Windowx XP. Either operating system will last you the life of the netbook and you’ll be very happy indeed with Windows XP or Windows 7. So don’t agonise over the decision - the main thing is to buy a netbook.
